FULL-TIME COMPUTER SCIENCE TEACHER/DEPARTMENT CHAIR
Academic Year 2025-26

Christchurch School is a co-ed Episcopal boarding and day school serving grades 9—12. Founded in 1921, Christchurch is located on a 125-acre waterfront campus on the Rappahannock River in eastern Virginia’s tidewater region. The school’s Mission is to inspire and guide each student's pursuit of personal excellence in academics and character so they are prepared for meaningful lives as engaged citizens and community leaders.
Position Overview. Christchurch seeks a full-time computer science teacher to teach 3-4 sections of computer science or related subjects. Christchurch School has an established college-prep program and recognizes a need to expand our offerings in computer science areas.  This is an exciting opportunity for an energetic and passionate individual to guide a program and envision the best way to grow a computer science program in keeping with the broader educational philosophy of the school.  We would envision possible avenues for computer science offerings to range from how technology shapes the world around us to advanced coding techniques and strategies.  We are particularly interested in forward-thinking candidates who can blend traditional computer science topics and strategies with emerging technologies.  We would also value the ability for the candidate to be able to provide educational technology support with the broader faculty.
There is the potential for this candidate to also serve as department chair.  If that were the case, experience guiding colleagues, curriculum design and review, and supporting the instructional technology needs of the school would be important.
Christchurch School fosters a student-centered approach to pedagogical practices, valuing the craft of teaching and embracing the boarding school model for meaningful education of the whole child. Equally, employees at CCS are expected to foster an inclusive workplace and contribute to a community built on equitable policies and procedures.  Teachers at CCS also contribute to the school by leading an advisory of 7-10 students, being a part of a duty team one evening per week and 6-7 weekends per year, and participating in two seasons of co-curriculars (particular areas of need are men’s and women’s soccer, women’s volleyball, sailing, and football).

  • Advanced degrees in computer science or education
  • This position is also expected to participate in the school’s co-curricular program.  Women’s and men’s soccer, volleyball, sailing, and football are specific areas of possibility but not required.

Work environment and physical demands:
  • Ability to be mobile around campus and buildings
  • Ability to work at a desk and computer screen for extended periods
  • Some travel required (mainly for athletic competitions)
