Christchurch School is a co-ed Episcopal boarding and day school serving grades 9—12. Founded in 1921, Christchurch is located on a 125-acre waterfront campus on the Rappahannock River in eastern Virginia’s tidewater region. Position Overview. Christchurch seeks a full-time design and tech teacher to teach 3-4 sections and lead the school’s existing Maker-space. Currently Christchurch School offers 3 levels of design and technology with increasing degrees of expectations. These courses ask students to learn by using their hands through individual and team projects. With a focus on Design Thinking and the engineering design processes, students learn how to fail quickly in a Maker-space environment and learn that failure is a part of the process. This is an exciting opportunity for an energetic and passionate individual to continue to develop this program at Christchurch School.
There is the potential for this candidate to also serve as department chair. If that were the case, experience guiding colleagues, curriculum design and review, and supporting the instructional technology of the school would be also be important.
Christchurch School fosters a student-centered approach to pedagogical practices, valuing the craft of teaching and embracing the boarding school model for meaningful education of the whole child. Teachers at CCS also contribute to the school by leading an advisory of 7-10 students, being a part of a duty team one evening per week and 6-7 weekends per year, and participating in two seasons of co-curriculars (particular areas of need are men’s and women’s soccer, women’s volleyball, sailing, and football).
Qualifications

Hold an undergraduate degree with a focus in design, engineering, instructional technology

Passionate about education as a profession and excited to learn or hone the craft of teaching

Candidates should be realistic and excited about teaching in a boarding school
-
Experience in a Maker-space educational environment
Preferred
-
2-4 years of experience teaching in a technology-related field

Experience in a boarding school environment

Advanced degrees in education

Existing knowledge of safety regulations for a Maker-space

This position is also expected to participate in the school’s co-curricular program. Women’s and men’s soccer, volleyball, sailing, and football are specific areas of possibility but not required.
Work environment and physical demands:

Ability to work with a team of teachers and students outside of the classroom on multi-day field experiences

Ability to be mobile around campus and buildings

Ability to work at a desk and computer screen for extended periods

Some travel required (mainly for athletic competitions)
