ACCOUNTING MANAGER/CONTROLLER

Position Overview:
Christchurch School seeks a disciplined, results-oriented Accounting Manager/Controller to join its exciting Business Office team. The ideal candidate for this position is a self-starter who can work both independently and collaboratively in a fluid environment.
The Accounting Manager/Controller reports to the Chief Financial Officer (CFO), while also providing additional indirect oversight of the accounting team.
The position is currently open and can begin immediately.
Responsibilities:
- Oversee general ledger, accounting functions, and systems, and ensure compliance with appropriate GAAP.
- Ensure that accounting entries are correctly posted to the proper accounts and that the financial records are accurate.
- Manage the monthly closing process and ensure all balance sheet accounts are reconciled monthly in a timely manner.
- Ensure that sound financial controls are established and maintained while optimizing and streamlining accounting processes.
- Coordinate with other departments, especially Admissions and Development, to ensure that all transactions are properly captured and recorded in the accounting system.
- Prepare, analyze, and submit monthly budget reports to the Budget Managers.
- Prepare, analyze, and submit monthly, quarterly, and annual financial reports to the CFO and Head of School.
- Support analytical needs including variance reporting budgetary efficiency.
- Coordinate the annual financial audit process.
- Assist with preparation of the School’s annual operating and capital budgets.
- Other duties and projects as assigned.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s Degree (or equivalent) in business, accounting, or related fields.
- A minimum of 3-5 years of professional experience in business, accounting experience, and/or related fields.
- Team player with a positive attitude, proactive approach, and customer service mindset.
- Well-developed strategic, critical, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills.
- Proficient interpersonal skills, including tact, diplomacy, confidentiality, and judgement.
- Able to multi-task and work effectively in a fast-paced environment, manage and prioritize multiple responsibilities and competing demands, and adapt to frequent and unexpected changes.
- Adept at attention to detail and able to develop, implement and analyze strategies.
- Excellent Excel skills.
- Experienced and skilled in the use of accounting software. Blackbaud NXT experience is a plus.
- Experience with Fund Accounting is a plus.

Hours of Work:
Monday through Friday from 8:00-5:00 p.m. Evening and weekend work may be required as job duties demand.
