CHRISTCHURCH SCHOOL OPENS 2010-11
WITH A FLOURISH!
9/6/2010
CCS opened its doors for the 2010-11 school year with palpable excitement for the new Great Journeys curriculum. Faculty and students are already preparing for the first annual IMMERSION TRIPS in October.

The freshman class will paddle Morris Creek into the Chickahominy River, where they will meet members of the Chickahominy Tribe and share in the tribe's oral history. After camping on the James River, the group will then visit and partake in the Jamestown dig.

Meanwhile, the junior class will spend a weekend on Tangier Island, living, working, eating, praying and playing with this isolated community in the Chesapeake Bay.

PERFECT DAY
9/6/2010
With the local forecast calling for clear blue skies, 84 degrees with "plentiful sunshine," Monday was a perfect day for Ms. Olsen's Marine Ecology class to paddle the canoes to nearby Fossil Beach, where they investigated the geology/ecology of the island and the greater Chesapeake Bay area.

CCS OYSTERS TO REACH 1/2 MILLION MARK!
8/20/2010
With the addition of another 100,000 seed oyster to our Oyster Farm, the CCS Oyster Project will surpass the 1/2 million mark by mid-September! With our 1/2 million oysters in the Rappahannock River, we will be filtering 25 million gallons of river water per day. Congratulations to the students, who have raised money to buy the oysters by collecting and recycling cans.
