Christchurch Crew
The spring rowing season is halfway through, and the Christchurch Crew has four races under its belt with four to go, including the VA State Championships on May 13 and the prestigious Stotesbury Cup in Philadelphia on May 19 and 20. Rosegill Plantation and Urbanna Creek are home to the Christchurch team, which numbers more than forty enthusiastic Seahorses. At the Occoquan Reservoir last weekend, the Boys' 1st Four finished first of 15 crews, winning its heat and in the final crossing the finish line 9.5 seconds in front of the second place crew. The Girls' 1st Four had a strong race, placing 4th of 15. "I'm satisfied with our progress to date. As we move toward the championship regattas, we will have to continue to gain boat speed in order to achieve similar successes," says Coach Steve Fluhr.
ALL ABOARD ... for the college of your choice
As the seniors savored college acceptances and made their final decisions, Christchurch juniors headed to the annual Richmond Area Independent Schools College Night at Collegiate School in Richmond. More than 180 colleges and universities were on hand to meet and talk with students. Our Director of College Counseling, Jeannette Adkins, explains that College Night "is an excellent chance for our students to talk to colleges and begin to build a list of schools."

Beyond the Textbook
There's never a dull moment in the Miller Building science labs, where hands-on, project-based discovery is a daily expectation. Whether it's studying the feeding behavior of our Moray eels and Oscars in Marine Science, learning the principles of air density through building tissue paper balloons, calculating the force of gravity with slingshots, or learning mechanics and software programming with LEGO robotics in Conceptual Physics, there's always something fascinating and fun going on in the Christchurch science department.
