A Festival of Lessons & Carols...and Other Favorite Holiday Traditions
Our Festival of Lessons & Carols, adapted from the service at King's College in Cambridge, has long been a favorite Christchurch tradition. For the occasion, St. Peter's Chapel is festooned with wreaths, swags, ribbons, and a sea of poinsettias (given by students and faculty in honor of or in memory of loved ones). Family, friends, faculty and students crowd the candlelit pews. Afterwards, Mr. and Mrs. Byers welcome everyone to the Headmaster's Residence for hot cocoa and Christmas treats. Other Christchurch Christmas traditions include the magic Candy Cane Tree, Pictures with Santa, the Freshman Tree Trimming at the Headmaster's Residence, and the Children's Party. In a new tradition, the Admission Office decorates its tree with personalized keepsake ornaments for each student.
Jeannette Adkins
Co-Authors ScienceText

Christchurch Director of College Placement and former Science Dept. Chair Jeannette Adkins has co-authored the Instructor's Guide for the 14th edition of the Miller Textbook: Living in the Environment, published by Thomson and Company. Says the editor - "...some of the best work I have seen in my 15 years of publishing...excellent, informative, cutting edge..." The opening chapter of the guide promotes a problem-based approach, turning good labs into outstanding inquiry-based labs - just what we do so well at Christchurch! The book is due in February, with an April release at the National Science Teachers Association meeting in Los Angeles.
John Stone Tournament Champs ... Again!
The Seahorses defeated Lancaster H. S. and Walsingham Academy to clinch the championship (for the second year in a row!) at this year's 16th Annual John Stone Invitational Classic. Our own J'Courtney Williams 07 was Tournament MVP.
